Andrew is a Manchester based Designer/Maker of furniture and products. An ongoing artistic interest since his childhood led to its application with training to become a Cabinetmaker and a short career in industry before attending Manchester School of Art where he specialised in furniture and product design.
This varied, winding path has provided him with a unique set of skills and insights that allow a sensitive understanding of the characteristics of a pleasing object. On one part beautiful and in another, functional. The beauty of an object is developed with the understanding of how it can be made, resulting in unique and carefully detailed objects suitable for production. The visual language that emerges is one of honesty, refinement and appreciation for the materials and processes that he engages with.
Establishing his studio practice and workshop in 2018, he works on bespoke commissions for clients who wish to obtain a piece of heirloom quality furniture that displays his signature visual language and rationale alongside his studio based approach designing ranges for production and purchase.
Influences that run through his work can be found in mid century era furniture design, the modernist movement and craftspeople such as the Shakers, Japanese woodworking traditions and the makers of vernacular furniture from his home country of England.
